Katie's Wigs was founded in 2004 and has become an established supplier of wigs and facial hair to the theatre, TV and film
industries over the last 16years.
'We provide, bespoke human hair wigs, all handmade in the UK by our highly experienced knotter's and foundation makers. All of our wigs are hand crafted with the finest quality hair and laces available, and all of our wigs are designed and customised for their specified use, whether it be for daily wear, fashion, TV, film or theatre. We work alongside our clients to provide solutions to fit company budgets, projects or personal requirements.'
Katie, the director or the company, has been making wigs for 20yrs after training with Ray Marston at his studio in London as one of his in-house makers. Over the years, Katie has been all over the world, working alongside some of the world's best wig makers and designers. This has allowed her to develop her skills by learning the exclusive techniques and difficulties overcome from the masters of the wig world. Using this knowledge, has allowed Katie to establish her own wig company - Katie's Wigs & Co. Katie now has an extensive team behind her who have years of training, and work to the highest of standard, with every job being quality checked to ensure everything that leaves the studio is 100% perfect.
Katie has now decided she wants to share her expertise and knowledge of the wig industry with others, offering short courses for all levels and workshops for colleges,universities and salons or anybody who would just like to see a glimpse into the traditional art of wig-making.

Katie has been a guest speaker at our University for the past 3 years and has provided our students with the highest standard of industry knowledge and practical skills in wig & postiche making. Alongside her practical development with the students, she has also provided ongoing feedback throughout the module using social media platforms to assist with the progression of their pieces and suggested how to improve techniques and application for their final character. Katie has introduced me to her network of industry professionals which has been useful in creating employ-ability links for our future graduates. I would highly recommend her to any education establishment and willing student to participate in her private courses.
So where to start.... I contacted Katie late December regarding her industry training course which involved 8 weeks of training 1 day per week. After contacting (hassling shall I say) Katie advised me that the 8 weeks wouldn’t work for me as I worked full time. She suggested a week intensive course with home study prior to attending. She took into account my training needs and requirements and tailored a training package that suited me and her. 2.5 months of independent training at home with her guidance of videos/emails/supportive texts I embarked on the 5 day intensive at her studio in Leeds in March. A smiling face opened the door and it was ago with comfortable conversation, an endless supply of tea/coffee that we made for each other and her endless knowledge. I can say that this lady is trooper.. her knotting techniques, knowledge, her ability to multi task of teach and work was amazing. She has given me the insight to the wig making world which is invaluable. Not only did I receive the best training I could ever want she was friendly, supportive, constructive in her feedback and thankful/proud in what she is giving back. So.. I have been a student of Katie's on the industry training course which I started last year. It was the best thing I did. Katie is a dream to learn from, she had patience with all my questions no matter what I asked and the ability to explain in a supportive way.
I have learnt so much on this course I hand on heart know that without doing this course I would not have the confidence or near enough knowledge to put myself out there as an outworker.

I have just completed the 8 week wig making course with Katie and I can't recommend it enough! I had been looking for a suitable course for a while and hadn't been able to find one that offers the flexibility that Katie's course offers. She is an excellent teacher and the class sizes were small (one to one is also available). I feel confident that I have the skills and knowledge to start working as an out-knotter thanks to this course.
I took the industry training course and can honestly say it was brilliant, I've learned so many new techniques and really built up my skill set! I have completed the 'Industry wigmaking course' feeling confident and able to begin my new career with the skills I need to fulfil wigmaking orders to a high standard.
Katie adapted the course so that I could fit it in around my work commitments and over the months got me to a standard where I was then able to do my one to one week intensive with her, where we went over all of the more complicated aspects of wigmaking.
I could never have achieved these skills from a book! Katie has made it possible for me to enter the world of wigmaking with confidence and is giving me ongoing support which has been amazing whilst I'm finding my feet and getting up and running.
Since completing the course with Katie, I have given up my regular job and am working from home as an outworker.
It's a big commitment taking the course as you will have to put a lot of time into the work, making your wigs but you will definitely get out of it what you put in!

I attended a brilliant wig making class with Katie. She has such great patience and a calming influence perfect for teaching new complicated skills to a beginner whilst also making sure to offer enough time to spend with each student. A lovely person also which makes all the difference as to whether you learn or not.
A few Years ago I was doing a Media Makeup course in Retford. Part of the course was done on Wig making. This is where I met Katie as she was the Tutor for this. She is a well accomplished Tutor and has a long list of clients in the industry. I can't recommend her highly enough, she is patient with everyone and no matter what your learning style is Katie is able to help and teach you the art of postiche making.

I’ve found Katie’s strong industry experience invaluable when discussing designs and describing how I want a wig or piece to look. Her ability to interpret your needs to create an end design and to translate this into her work really helps and gives a good solid basis to then work upon. This can be from the colour mixing, grading and direction of the hair, where and how the parting lies, the length and thickness to the type of hair used. She is knowledgeable in all areas.

I did the introduction course last week and loved it. I already work in hair preparation and extensions but am looking at moving into hair replacement. This was a great way to see if it's right for me and I've come away with some skills that I can put into practice straight away.

I've just completed the Advanced Industry training course. I've done other wigmaking/facial hair courses in the past but nothing was as detailed as this one.
I have learnt so much and have become more confident in wigmaking. Katie delivered an excellent workshop for my Level 5 Fashion, Theatrical Media Hair & Makeup student group, providing an in depth insight into the industry and detailed techniques in knotting, measuring, fitting and styling postiche and wigs. Katie additionally set up a forum for the students to stay in touch & receive valuable feedback on the progression of their postiche pieces for assessment. Katie & I have remained in touch and she has provided invaluable work experience contacts and opportunities for my students and has become a good friend-couldn't recommend her highly enough!
I finished the 8 week wig making course just before Easter. I went from somebody who had never knotted in there entire life to being able to knot a full wig. The course was fantastic with 2 students to 1 teacher, so if we ever got stuck Katie was always on hand to help. Highly recommend this course for anyone who wants to learn the art of wig making!!! Xx

She contacted me regularly with updates and I had great after care. I also have off the shelf wigs but custom made is a different level of comfort totally amazing. Best of all you can wash and style as you want just like it is your own hair. Thank you !!!!!

world. This came in the form of wig knotting. I took the 5 day wig knotting course (spread over 5
weeks) from Katie. She was an incredible teacher, very patient, knowledgeable and made
everything understandable. When I found anything tricky she was always there with the right
advise and gave me fantastic encouragement.
Katie’s course enabled me give up my job on a West End Musical and start working as a full time
wig knotter.
